How digital workers are revolutionising IT

Many companies face a growing challenge: they cannot find skilled workers, especially in IT for digitalisation. At the end of 2020 there were 86,000 open positions for IT experts, according to a survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom. Among the many missing specialists, developers are lacking above all. On average it takes six months to fill an open IT position.

Digital assistants, or "digital workers", offer an alternative to classic software development. Managing Director Andreas Mucke explains: "With digital assistants like our MR.KNOW – DEVELOPER ASSISTANT, building applications is now possible for non-IT staff too, because there is no longer any need for classic programming. Instead, the digital assistant supports employees in the business departments in building applications themselves."

It is enough for the domain experts to create a description. From this description, the MR.KNOW – DEVELOPER ASSISTANT generates a BPMN 2.0 process model, which it then brings to life – fully automatically, without programming. This allows specialists from the departments to turn their expert knowledge into an application themselves, while IT staff retain enough time to focus on interface and logic programming for complex requirements.

One example of using MR.KNOW in development is the information portal for employers (informationsportal.de), which the IT service centre of the statutory health insurance funds (ITSG) implemented together with Inspire Technologies. Domain experts create the information assistants exclusively via graphical models. In 2020, this solution was awarded first place in the gfo Process Solution Award in the category "Digital transformation and business processes".
